Taos Farmers Market Secures New Permanent Site Adjacent to Current Market

Taos, NM — April 2, 2026

The Taos Farmers Market, in partnership with the Northern Rio Grande Resource Conservation & Development District (RC&D) and Taos County, is proud to announce that we have secured a new permanent site located adjacent to our current home at the Taos County Complex.

This milestone marks an important step forward in securing a stable, long-term future for our market while remaining rooted in the location our community already knows and loves.

“This is an exciting moment for the Taos Farmers Market and for our entire community,” said Doug Patterson, President of the Taos Farmers Market. “While moving from location to location over the years, the Taos Farmers Market has remained true to its mission of supporting local agriculture for over 50 years. Today we take the first step toward putting down permanent roots. Together with our partners, we bring the opportunity to establish a permanent location for a year-round market venue and to build upon the shared values of local land-based agriculture.”

This new site will allow us to continue serving as a vibrant hub for local agriculture, food access, and community connection, while opening the door for future improvements and expanded uses. It will build upon the assets provided by the Town of Taos and Taos County, including safe and accessible parking in the existing county parking lot, and enhanced connectivity through the Rio Fernando trail, linking walkable neighborhoods to this community hub.

We have reached an agreement with Morgan and Ana Alycia Cunnyngham to lease-to-purchase a 3-acre lot adjacent to the Taos County Administrative Complex along the Rio Fernando on Paseo del Pueblo Sur, across from Mantes Restaurant.

Taos County has been the generous host of our Saturday market for the last three years; however, parking has been challenging, as marketgoers have had to park in adjacent lots and along city streets. This new arrangement allows customers to park in the existing lot, while the adjacent three acres along the Rio Fernando will host vendor booths and market vehicles.

Genevieve Oswald, Board Member of the Northern Rio Grande RC&D and Taos Town Councilor, helped lead the collaboration between the organizations. “This has been a true partnership grounded in shared values,” said Oswald. “We’re honoring the legacy of the market while taking a meaningful step toward its future.”

The Taos Farmers Market has long been a cornerstone of the local economy, supporting farmers, ranchers, and small producers across the region. Securing this site ensures that we can continue to thrive and evolve while staying accessible to the community we serve.

More information about next steps will be shared as the project moves forward.
