Taos, NM — 10/1/2025 — The Taos Farmers Market is proud to announce a major milestone in its history: the market is now officially recognized as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
This new status opens the door to expanded opportunities for supporting agriculture in Northern New Mexico. The market’s very first initiative as a non-profit is both ambitious and deeply meaningful: purchasing and developing a permanent home for the Taos Farmers Market.
“For years, we’ve dreamed of having land that we can truly call our own,” says Jennifer Helsel, Board Treasurer. “Now, that vision is becoming a reality but we need our community’s help to make it happen.”
The Market has launched a campaign to raise $50,000 by the end of 2025. Funds will be used to:
- Put down gravel for a safe, accessible lot.
- Create access points for vendors and visitors.
- Begin development of the raw land currently being purchased.
The Market’s goal is to be operating at the new location in 2026. Reaching the $50,000 fundraising goal is critical to ensure the property can be developed in time.
Community members are invited to join the campaign with a one-time donation or become part of the Market’s Monthly Giving Circle with monthly donation levels ranging from “Seed Sower” to “Community Cultivator.”
“This project isn’t just about land,” Jennifer adds. “It’s about planting roots that will support our farmers for generations to come.”
